CBI secures approval for polygraph test

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has received approval to conduct a polygraph test on Sanjay Roy, the prime suspect in the rape and murder case of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

On Monday, the CBI was granted permission to carry out the polygraph test after conducting a psychoanalysis test on Roy, who remains in the agency’s custody. The Kolkata Police had arrested Roy a day after the victim’s body was discovered in the seminar hall of the RG Kar Hospital on August 9, between 3 am and 5 am.

According to a PTI report, Roy had joined the Kolkata Police as a civic volunteer in 2019 and was later posted at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Allegations against him include having been married multiple times and being known for problematic behavior. Roy is also reported to be a trained boxer who has established connections with senior police officers over the years.

According to Hindustan Times, the CBI has continued its investigation by questioning the former principal of the medical college, Sandip Ghosh, for the fourth consecutive day. Ghosh has been asked to clarify his actions following the discovery of the doctor’s body, including why he delayed the parents’ access to their daughter and the details surrounding the renovation of rooms near the seminar hall at the emergency building of the hospital.
