Mokokchung, October 29 (MTNews): The Governor of Assam & Nagaland, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi visited Avankhung village under the Meluri Sub-Division of Phek District on Saturday and held a series of interaction meetings with the District Officials from various departments, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)/Hohos of Pochuri tribe.

 

 

The Governor directed the department officers to handle the developmental flagship policies with sincerity in order to increase farmers’ income.
The Governor also inquired about the Jal Jeevan Mission for drinking water supply, Rural Housing Schemes, Rural Electrification programs, Farmers Double Income Policy, and Education Policies in the State, where concerned district officers were present at the meeting venue in Avangkhu.

 

The Governor urged department officers to properly implement all different types of developmental flagship schemes and said that various programs/schemes should reach the concerned citizens for the development of the State and Nation, in which the Governor stated that the national income would automatically increase if the farmers’ income doubled.

 

Regarding the education system, the Governor stated that education does not mean teaching only book knowledge, but that children up to primary school level should be taught in their mother tongue and impart their own culture and tradition, so that it would definitely create a sense of unity and patriotism for the greater interest of the nation.

 

On the agriculture sector, the Governor directed concerned department officers and district administration to monitor whether farmers’ income is increasing through the State’s Flagship Schemes for Farmers Double Income Policy.

 

During the interaction meeting, the Governor urged Pochuri Hoho and Pochuri Women Hoho to preserve their culture and tradition, which is critical for their future.

 

Regarding Hoho’s demand for the upgradation of Meluri sub-division to district status, the Governor informed that it is a ‘state subject’ for which the state government is taking care of the demand.
The governor also held an interactive meeting with the police and the Assam Rifles to discuss the state’s bordering international security situation.

 

Taking to Twitter, the Nagaland Governor wrote, “I am happy to have visited the Avankhung village of Phek District in Nagaland today and conducted a series of interaction meetings with the District officials from various departments, NGOs, Hohos of Pochury tribe.”
