An awareness programme on drug abuse and prevention was held at the Naga Territorial Army Camp in Jakhama, where Dr. Keneilhoulie Medom raised concern over the rising trend of addiction among youngsters. He urged the Territorial Army, comprising Naga personnel, to take a united stand against the influx of drugs at key locations such as Khuzama and Moa Gate. Dr. Medom emphasized the Army’s vital role in monitoring these strategic points, located between the Golden Triangle and the Golden Crescent, both known for drug trafficking, and called upon them to protect their community and the nation.
Dr. Medom encouraged those struggling with addiction within the camp to seek help from the Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) Centre at Jakhama Primary Health Centre. Sharing stories of recovery through OST, he offered support for medicine supply whenever required, showing his commitment to rehabilitation and care.
Colonel J.P. Singh underscored the importance of willpower in overcoming addiction and acknowledged the Army’s efforts toward building a drug-free society. Hoketozo Kirha, Programme Manager, highlighted the prevalence of HIV and the availability of prevention services, stressing the need for awareness and early action.
The programme, chaired by Kevisenu Natso, Councilor at Jakhama OST Centre, concluded with a collective call for unity and commitment to fight addiction and create a healthier, drug-free society for the youth of Nagaland.
