AWO : The Angami Women Organisation (AWO) has expressed sadness and outrage over the reported physical assault on a nursing student at District Hospital Dimapur.
“Such acts of violence on women, particularly against young professionals who dedicate their lives to serving others, are deeply disturbing and have no place in a civilised society,” AWO said.
In a condemnation note, AWO President Neithono R. Sothu and General Secretary Atono Kense stated that nurses and healthcare workers play an essential role in our communities, giving so much of themselves, and they deserve respect, protection, and a safe working environment. Any attack on them is an attack on the very values of humanity and justice, it added.
AWO also urged hospitals and institutions to implement strong measures to prevent such incidents in the future and safeguard the rights and dignity of all healthcare workers.
Furthermore, AWO strongly urged the authorities to take swift and stringent action against the perpetrators and ensure that justice is delivered without delay.
DAYO : The Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) has also condemned the “shocking and reprehensible assault on a fellow Naga sister nursing trainee,” allegedly committed by a hospital staff member on February 24 at Dimapur District Hospital.
“Such an act of violence, especially against a woman, is deeply disturbing and goes against the values and traditions of our Naga society, where respect and dignity for women are held in the highest regard,” DAYO said.
While acknowledging the swift action taken by the police in “apprehending the accused in record time,” DAYO also urged the administration and law enforcement authorities to ensure that justice is delivered at the earliest and that the perpetrator is dealt with according to the full extent of the law.
Furthermore, DAYO called upon the concerned authorities to implement stringent security measures within hospital premises to prevent such heinous incidents from recurring.
“Hospitals should be places of safety and care, not of fear and insecurity. It is imperative that all necessary steps be taken to protect patients, students, and staff alike,” DAYO stated, while conveying that it stands in solidarity with the victim and her family.
