The Ayemi Kughuko Küghakulu (AKK), Nagaland, marked its Silver Jubilee with a celebration centered on the theme “Reclaim our Roots” at Samson Phu, Agahuto, Chumoukedima on 16 November.
Talking on the theme, Kakihe Ayemi, Additional Director of Tourism, Nagaland, and Chairman of Tuku Kughuko Kuposhukulu, called for thorough research and documentation of the Ayemi clan’s migration roots. He suggested that the Ayemi Kughuko Küghakulu formally constitute a committee to undertake this task. Highlighting the role of oral traditions in preserving their history, he stressed the need for academic efforts to ensure the clan’s legacy endures.
“The Ayemi Kughuko Küghakulu (AKK) Nagaland organization was established with the sole purpose of researching and documenting the migration history of the Ayemi clan, thereby preserving its rich cultural heritage and legacy,” said Kakihe Ayemi.
Research studies suggest that the Nagas, including the Sumi tribe, emerged through cross-migration, he said.
Chairman Howoto Avemi extended jubilee greetings and reflected on the AKK’s journey since its establishment on May 5, 1999, at the residence of former Minister Kiyezhe Aye. He expressed gratitude to the Ayemi pioneers for their visionary efforts and acknowledged the contributions of Samson Ayemi and his family in hosting the jubilee celebration.
Hekani Ayemi Jakhalu, MLA and Advisor for Industries and Commerce, urged the community to uphold their unity and heritage while adapting to the future. She emphasized the milestone significance of the jubilee and encouraged the younger generation to take responsibility for the next chapter in the Ayemi clan’s legacy. Jakhalu also highlighted the need for expertise in business and entrepreneurship for self-sufficiency.

Reflecting on the theme, Tovihoto stressed the need for constituting a committee to research the Ayemi clan’s migration roots and history. He urged the union to remember and honor the pioneers who founded Ayemi Kughuko Küghakulu 25 years ago.
Tovihoto encouraged the union to focus on uniting the Sumi people, fostering reconciliation, and promoting a sense of collective responsibility among the tribe. He appealed to the Ayemi clan to act as ambassadors of peace, unity, and upliftment, contributing to the Sumi community while building stronger relationships with other Naga communities.
To drive progress, Tovihoto urged the adoption of a spirit of unity and love to strengthen community bonds. He called on pastors, reverends, and church leaders to guide theologian aspirants and lead the community in their spiritual journey. Suggesting joint fellowships among churches, he envisioned such gatherings as platforms for fostering closer ties and unity.
Addressing professionals within the community, Tovihoto encouraged bureaucrats to share their experiences and guide the youth toward successful careers. He also urged entrepreneurs, businessmen, and sports personalities to mentor others, helping the community achieve success across various professions.
While lamenting the underutilization of community resources, he highlighted the untapped potential and urged collective efforts to unlock these opportunities for the betterment of the Ayemi clan and the broader community.
