Kohima, 14 April (MTNews): Stating that the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) which had once championed the cause of women is now “seen to be visibly going astray from its purposes and priorities, with repeated attempts and instances to sabotage the common interest of our people,” the Angami Youth Organization (AYO) have decided to not allow any activities of the Naga Mothers’ Association “within the Angami jurisdiction with effect from issuing of this statement.”
The organization also appealed to the State Government, organizations and forums to desist from associating or give any kind of platform to “the individuals who claim to represent the Naga Mothers’ Association.”
“It is an undeniable fact that many organizations in the past have contributed for the welfare and cause of our people. Likewise, the contributions of women in the course of our history have been immense,” AYO noted. However, for the past few years, according to the Organization, the role of the present Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) in the society has “proven to be detrimental rather than being constructive” and, therefore, had compelled “almost every tribal women organization to withdraw its mandate and affiliation from the Naga Mothers’ Association.”
According to AYO, the statement from the apex Tribal Hohos in the past few days, in particular the Angami Public Organization’s stand in regard to Naga Mothers’ Association, evidently conveys that the present Naga Mothers’ Association is being “hijacked by some few individuals who have self-appointed themselves as officials” and alleged that they are going to the extent of carrying out the organization’s activities according to their whims and fancies.
Therefore, stating that AYO cannot remain as a “mute spectator when some individuals repeatedly defies and goes against the appeal and directives of our Tribal Hohos,” the Organization said they have put the aforementioned decision into effect.
