The Basketball Association Mokokchung District (BAMD) has expressed deep shock and grief over the tragic death of a 22-year-old woman basketball player who was found murdered in Kohima on October 25.

In a statement issued by BAMD president Temsutoshi Longkumer, the Association said the young athlete was a promising player and a state representative whose untimely death has left the entire sporting community in disbelief.

“She was a young athlete with immense promise, and her commitment to the game had brought pride to Nagaland. Losing such a young and vibrant sportsperson in such a manner is painful beyond words,” the statement read.

Condemning the act as “senseless violence that has cut short a young life full of potential,” BAMD welcomed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. The Association urged the government and police authorities to ensure that the investigation is thorough, transparent, and uncompromising so that justice is delivered to the victim and her family.

It also appealed to the public to refrain from circulating unverified information and to extend full cooperation to the investigating agencies.
