The Chief Secretary of the Government of Nagaland, Dr. J Alam, IAS, stated today that the banking sector in Nagaland has been performing significantly below the national average across almost all parameters, which remains a constant concern for the state.

While addressing the Nagaland Credit Empowerment Summit at Noune Resort, Dimapur, on Friday, the Chief Secretary provided an overview of the banking and credit status in the state. He noted that a crucial channel of funds is essentially stranded due to this underperformance.

Dr. Alam further highlighted that the average household coverage in the banking sector is only 55%, compared to the national average of 80%. Additionally, the Credit-Deposit ratio in Nagaland stands at 55-57%, in contrast to the national average of 75%.

The Chief Secretary urged the bankers present to develop a credible plan to address these gaps.
