The Inter High School & Higher Secondary School Basketball Tournament 2025 witnessed high-energy semi-final clashes on Day 2 at the BAMD Court, Imkongmeren Sports Complex, as the tournament moved closer to its climax.
In the girls’ division, Queen Mary Higher Secondary School (QMHSS) edged past Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School (MGHSS) in a low-scoring but intense first semi-final, winning 7–6 in a closely fought game. The second semi-final saw Eden Academy outplay Christian Residential Higher Secondary School (CRHSS) with a convincing 10–3 win.
With these results, the girls’ final is now set between QMHSS and Eden Academy. The title clash will be held on Saturday.
In the boys’ category, the first semi-final match turned out to be a thriller. Mayangnokcha GHSS narrowly defeated Clark Memorial Higher Secondary School (CMHSS) Impur with a scoreline of 34–32.
The game was a tug-of-war across quarters, with CMHSS leading 5–3 in the first period, followed by a balanced second period that ended 2–2. Mayangnokcha GHSS dominated the third period with a 22–7 run, but CMHSS came back strong in the final quarter, outscoring their opponents 18–7.
Despite CMHSS’s late surge, the third-period dominance by Mayangnokcha proved decisive.
The second boys’ semi-final between QMHSS and Eden Academy will be played on Saturday, ahead of the girls’ final. The boys’ final will also be held later that same day.
The inaugural district-level inter-school basketball tournament continues to energize Mokokchung’s sporting spirit, blending competition with community enthusiasm. Saturday’s finals promise to be memorable showdowns for the rising stars of district basketball.
