Mokokchung, March 24 (MTNews): On the backdrop of S Phangnon Konyak being nominated as the BJP’s candidate for the Rajya Sabha, who has since been declared elected uncontested, the BJP National Vice President, Dr. M Chuba Ao, said today that her nomination reflects the constant endeavor of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP party itself towards women empowerment and gender parity. “BJP is firm in its belief that women leaders can play equal and capable roles across various levels – be it at the grassroots level or in the state or National legislatures,” he added.

He further said that political parties in the state should proactively come forward in ensuring higher women representation in state politics and urged all political parties to reserve at least 33% of the Assembly Constituency seats for women candidates starting with 2023 Assembly election.

“Women understand their problems and aspirations in much better ways than the male counterparts. Strong female political figures will be able to pursue the women empowerment agenda and equal livelihood opportunities in more emphatic ways,” he said, further adding that women can bring greater accountability and transparency in governance.
