The Election Commission of India on Monday declared the results of bypolls held across seven assembly seats in five states, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) securing four victories and the Indian National Congress winning two seats.

The BJP registered wins in Nagaland, Tripura, Maharashtra’s Rahuri seat, and Gujarat’s Umreth constituency. In Nagaland, Daochier I Imchen won the Koridang (ST) seat with 7,317 votes, while in Tripura, Jahar Chakraborti secured Dharmanagar with 24,291 votes. In Gujarat, Harshadbhai Govindbhai Parmar won Umreth with 85,500 votes. In Maharashtra, Akshay Shivajirao Kardile won Rahuri with 1,40,093 votes.

The Congress won two seats in Karnataka. Umesh Hullappa Meti secured Bagalkot with 98,919 votes, while Samarth Shamanur Mallikarjuna won Davanagere South with 69,578 votes.

In Maharashtra’s Baramati constituency, Sunetra Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party won with 2,18,969 votes. Sunetra Pawar is the National President of the Nationalist Congress Party and the widow of her predecessor and husband, Ajit Pawar, who died in a plane crash in January 2026.

Polling for Karnataka, Nagaland, and Tripura was held on April 9, while Gujarat and Maharashtra voted on April 23.

A bypoll in Goa’s Ponda seat was cancelled following a Bombay High Court order. The court held that the process violated the Representation of the People Act, 1951, as a new MLA would have served less than a year, with the assembly term ending on March 14, 2027. (With inputs from agencies)
