The bridge connecting Jharnapani and Molvon will remain closed from 18th February 2026 as authorities move to dismantle the existing structure and construct a new, higher-level bridge, officials announced. The closure comes after safety concerns were raised regarding the bridge’s frequent submergence during the monsoon season.

According to the order issued by P. James SWU, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Medziphema, “It has been observed that the bridge located between Jharnapani and Molvon gets submerged during the monsoon season, thereby posing serious risk to public safety and disrupting vehicular movement.”

Following a technical assessment, the order states that “the existing bridge shall be dismantled and a new, higher-level bridge shall be constructed at the same location to ensure safe and uninterrupted connectivity throughout the year.”

To facilitate the construction work, “movement of vehicular traffic on the aforementioned stretch shall remain closed with effect from 18th February 2026 onwards,” the order added. Commuters have been directed to follow an alternate route via Tri junction – Cattle Breeding Farm (towards SAS) Dzumha river. The public has been requested to “adhere strictly to the diversion arrangements to avoid inconvenience and ensure safety.”

The order further clarifies that “this order shall remain in force till the completion of the new bridge and until further notice,” signaling that traffic disruption may continue for several months.

Officials emphasized that the project is aimed at preventing accidents and ensuring uninterrupted connectivity in the area, particularly during the monsoon season when the low-lying bridge has historically been submerged, creating hazards for commuters.
