A candle light service organized by Soyim Students Union, in memory of Late Mapuienla Longkumer was held at Babu Tzübo Amphitheater, Ungma Village, Mokokchung on Tuesday.
Moatemsu Longkumer, President, Soyim Students Union, expressed gratitude to everyone who showed support during the demise of Late Mapuienla Longkumer via numerous press statements and releases. He also urged the Ao Students’ Conference and the Ongpangkong Students’ Conference to approach the Naga Student Federation and appeal to them for assistance in apprehending the perpetrator as soon as possible.
“In an age where justice is served even to animals, why is justice not served to a human being even after 7 days?” he questioned, calling forth the Nagaland government to bring justice to Mapuienla Longkumer stating that she was a sister, a daughter, a dear friend, and, above all, a human being.
The SSU president also requested that the government labour ceaselessly to identify and punish the perpetrator in accordance with the law. “This cry will not be in vain, we will not compromise on anything until justice is served,” he declared.
Nekmi Longkumer, General Secretary, AKM, and Limatongzuk Jamir, President, OKM, spoke on the occasion and emphasized that both student bodies will support the SSU in their efforts to deliver justice to Late Mapuienla Longkumer, while urging the law enforcement agencies involved in the inquiry to expedite the process so that justice can be served as soon as possible. The AKM and OKM also expressed support, pledging to fight to the end and until justice is served.
The lighting of the candle was initiated by Rev. Dr. Noklen Longkumer, Pastor, Ungma Baptist Church.
It may be recalled that Late Mapuienla Longkumer, who was studying at St. Joseph University, Dimapur succumbed to her injuries on May 26 after she was hit and run over by an unidentified driver the previous day.
