The Government of India has renewed ceasefire arrangements with two Naga armed groups, extending existing agreements for another year amid ongoing efforts to sustain the peace process.

According to Eastern Mirror, the truce with GPRN/NSCN (Unification) will continue till April 27, 2027, following a meeting between representatives of the group and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in New Delhi. The interaction was attended by MHA Joint Secretary Niraj Kumar Bansod, while the group was represented by its leadership.

In a separate but related development, the Centre also extended its ceasefire agreement with NSCN/K-Khango till April 17, 2027. The arrangement will continue under established ground rules, which remain subject to periodic review.

While acknowledging the extension, the GPRN/NSCN (U) indicated that prolonging ceasefire arrangements alone does not amount to meaningful progress in resolving the long-standing Indo-Naga political issue. It reiterated that the objective remains a negotiated and honourable settlement.

The group also flagged concerns over delays in finalising and implementing the “Agreed Position,” stating that prolonged inaction could weaken confidence in the process. It urged the Centre to move forward with formalisation, noting that the agreement reflects the aspirations of the Naga people.
