They say, there is nothing as powerful as a mother’s love and that a mother’s love is endearing, unconditional and the strength to overcome every hurdle. On Mother’s Day, today, we celebrate our mothers who have raised their children with love, dedication and passion while making sure that their family gets the best of what they need.
Many wonderful mothers might have left this world; many must be struggling on their sick bed while many worry about their family’s well-being. It is never possible to cover the stories of so many inspiring mothers who are making this world a better place to live in. This Mother’s Day, Mokokchung Times would like to introduce two mothers who shared their stories with a pleasant smile across their faces.
53 years old, I. Achila of Alempang ward is a vegetable vendor and has been selling vegetables for the past twenty years. And today, she is a proud mother of three children although, unfortunately, she has lost one to death. But she, like many mothers, continue to smile through her pain as her youngest child today has a Master’s degree in Law.
“God has been really kind to us. It is true that God loves honest people. As far as I am concerned, I have been truthful in my deeds and God has blessed us for our honesty,” she said.
“The whole reason we work hard is because we want the best for our children. We are here for our children. We want to make sure they are fed well and we hope to do the best we can for our children,” she added.
She then went on to share how they have been running their family selling vegetables:
“Both my husband and I are involved in this business alone. We cannot do farming so we work hard by selling vegetables,” she stated.
Ghokhali Assumi (55), a mother of three children from Artang ward has been running a clothing store for the past twenty-five years. The delighted mother, whose two children out of three are now pursuing their post-graduation degrees while the other being already married, shared how she sometimes feels like God loves their family the most.
“There has not been a moment where any of our family members got ill or went through difficult times. So, sometimes, whenever I think about all these and compare myself with other families, I feel like God only loves our family,” she laughed.
Mrs. Ghokhali has been running her shop all by herself for the entire year with support from her husband, who is a Gaon Bura.
According to her, the only thing she wishes and prays for in life is for her children. “I keep praying for my children in the hope that God will open up ways for them when I am still alive. I just want to see them get a comfortable life before I die. I am also very grateful that my children grew up obeying and respecting us and I thank God for it,” she said.
For all the absolute love; for all the absolute care; for all the absolute energy; for all the absolute sacrifice, may we have the heart to celebrate and honor her not just on Mother’s Day but every day.

“Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mothers out there. I just want to say, the kind of a role you play is admirable and it takes a lot of courage and strength to be a wonderful mother. May you continue to be the strength, the best friend and the wonderful guide like you have always been”.

“It’s true that mother’s love is unconditional. I simply am shocked looking at how selfless they can be. The mother instinct is something that has never occurred to me but mothers are truly the most amazing beings in the whole world. They are your best-friend, your guide, your everything. It will be absolutely devastating to me if I happen to loss her. I love you, mom”.

“Mom is the blessing that no one can replace. She is the one who understands all the untold feelings. The older she get, the more love and affection she pours out. She is selfless and Kind. She is the one who hides her tears and take all the burdens on her shoulder. Her heart is made of gold who is always ready to sacrifice for her children. Thank you for always being there for me. “You are an irreplaceable Mom”.

“A mother is an unsung hero, who shelters and protects her loved ones with love, compassion and prayers. She is a warrior fighting battles for her family everyday in a chaotic world. A mother comforts and encourages with her presence and wisdom. May we always remember to acknowledge and honour our mothers – the unsung heroes!”

“Motherhood to me is unconditional love in human form. I lost my dad when I was right out of college, losing him left a huge void in my life personally but my mother with all her shortcomings, living under the comfort and security of my father for years, rose up to every occasion and never once made me feel the vacuum that my father’s demise had created.
Today as a single mother to 2 boys, I cannot even begin to imagine the sacrifice that my mother had to endure all those years. She has taught me that mothering goes beyond the nurturing of the young ones. It’s about putting a child’s life ahead of everything we desire in life. Once we become parents, everything we do is for our children and their wellbeing and my mother’s selflessness and the values she instilled in me is seen in the eyes of my children.
I am my mother’s daughter and this mother’s day, I salute all the single mothers for the struggles they are enduring, for the tears she has to hide, for the giants she has to fight every day, for trying to be the wo’Man’ of the family. May God Bless all the mothers, the superwoman who doesn’t need to put on a cape to show her powers.”
