Nagaland will see the introduction of digital tools, including mobile application-based data collection and a self-enumeration facility, as part of Census 2027.
A press conference on Census 2027 was held at Kohima Press Club on June 17, 2026, jointly organised by the Government of Nagaland, the Directorate of Census Operations, Nagaland, and the Press Information Bureau (PIB) Kohima.
In Nagaland, the self-enumeration period will be conducted from June 16 to June 30, 2026, while the House Listing and Housing Census will be carried out from July 1 to July 30, 2026.
A total of 6,134 census personnel, including enumerators and supervisors, have been deployed for the exercise in the state.
Addressing the media, Director of Census Operations, Nagaland, Dr. Kenie Miachieo, IFS, said public cooperation will be crucial to ensure accurate and reliable data collection. He said awareness campaigns involving village authorities, community organisations and other stakeholders will support the process.
He said Census 2027 will be conducted under the Census Act, 1948 and Census Rules, 1990, and that individual data will remain confidential under Section 15 of the Act.
Dr. Miachieo said Census 2027 will be the 16th Census in the country and the eighth since Independence, with the last Census conducted in 2011.
He also stated that furnishing false information during the Census is punishable under the Act.
He informed that digital initiatives include the use of a mobile application for data collection, a self-enumeration portal for the public, and a web-based monitoring system for census management. House Listing Blocks will also be created through a web-mapping application.
Speaking on preparations, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Office of the Commissioner, Nagaland, Kelevituo Nisa, said administrative arrangements and training programs have been completed across the state.
He said Nagaland comprises 17 districts, 118 sub-districts, 39 statutory towns, 5 census towns and 1,606 villages under the Census framework.
