Preparations for Census 2027 have gathered momentum across Nagaland, with district administrations launching extensive training programmes for enumerators and supervisors and emphasizing the importance of accurate data collection for future planning and governance.

In Chümoukedima, census preparations featured prominently during the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting held on June 10 under the chairmanship of Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio. Deputy Commissioner Polan John highlighted the ongoing census exercise and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, stressing that census data forms the basis for policy formulation, developmental programmes and effective governance. He urged enumerators and supervisors to carry out their responsibilities diligently to ensure an error-free census.

Field trainers Alongba Ao and Arenla presented detailed briefings on census procedures, self-enumeration, planning and mapping exercises, recruitment processes and training activities. The first phase of training for Census 2027 enumerators and supervisors also commenced in Chümoukedima, bringing together around 150 participants from across the district. Officials emphasized the importance of accuracy, confidentiality and adherence to census guidelines during field operations.

In Kohima, Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem visited ongoing training programmes and described participation in the census as a “historic responsibility” and a privilege. He reminded trainees that they would serve as the frontline workforce in collecting vital national data and stressed that the information gathered would directly influence development planning and policy decisions at both state and national levels.

Training programmes also commenced in Kiphire and Tuensang districts. At Kiphire, Additional Deputy Commissioner Longdiba L Sangtam highlighted the value of the census and urged enumerators and supervisors to perform their duties sincerely. In Tuensang, Deputy Commissioner Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa encouraged trainees to work with dedication despite challenges that may arise during data collection. The district will train 347 enumerators and supervisors through eight batches.

Meanwhile, the Dimapur district administration announced that Phase I training for supervisors and enumerators will be conducted from June 11 to 13, followed by Phase II from June 15 to 17 at Livingstone Foundation College of Nursing. Attendance has been made mandatory for all personnel assigned to census duties.

The statewide training drive is aimed at equipping field personnel with the skills and knowledge required for the successful conduct of Census 2027, a critical national exercise that provides demographic, social and economic data for planning and development. (With DIPR inputs)
