The Centre has extended the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA) in nine districts of Nagaland and areas under 21 police stations in five other districts for another six months from October 1, 2026.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), in a notification issued on Friday, declared the specified areas as “disturbed areas” under Section 3 of the AFSPA. The order will remain in force until March 31, 2027, unless withdrawn earlier.
The nine districts covered by the notification are Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Mon, Kiphire, Noklak, Phek, Peren and Meluri.
The notification also covers areas under 21 police stations in Kohima, Mokokchung, Longleng, Wokha and Zunheboto districts.
In Kohima district, the affected police stations are Khuzama, Kohima North, Kohima South, Zubza and Kezocha.
In Mokokchung district, they are Mangkolemba, Mokokchung-I, Longtho, Tuli, Longchem and Anaki ‘C’.
The notification covers Yanglok police station in Longleng district; Bhandari, Champang and Ralan in Wokha district; and Ghatashi, Pughoboto, Satakha, Suruhoto, Zunheboto and Aghunato in Zunheboto district.
The MHA said the decision followed a further review of the law and order situation in Nagaland.
The latest order continues the existing AFSPA coverage in the notified areas, with the previous six-month declaration having taken effect from April 1, 2026.
