Centre extends free food grains scheme for poor for five more years

Mokokchung, 29 November (MTNews): The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana has been extended by the Central Government for an additional five years, commencing on January 1, 2024. This initiative provides five kilograms of free food grains per month to over 81 crore individuals in need across the country. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur conveyed the Union Cabinet’s decision on this extension.

Drones for Women’s SHGs
In another development, the Union Cabinet granted approval for a Central Sector Scheme dedicated to supplying drones to Women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Minister Thakur detailed that the scheme intends to furnish drones to 15,000 selected Women’s SHGs spanning from 2023-24 to 2025-26. The primary objective is to facilitate these groups in offering rental services to farmers for various agricultural purposes. The scheme has received the green light with a budgetary allocation of 1261 crore rupees.
