The Government of India and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (K)-Niki have extended their ceasefire agreement for another year, with the fresh agreement coming into effect from September 8, 2026 and remaining in force till September 7, 2027.
The agreement was signed in New Delhi on Monday following the Ceasefire Review and Extension Meeting between the two sides.
The Government of India was represented by Niraj Kumar Bansod, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, while the NSCN(K)-Niki delegation was led by Abel Zingrü Thuer, Supervisor, Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB).
On behalf of the NSCN(K)-Niki, the agreement was signed by Thuer and Ameka Achumi, Secretary, CFSB.
According to the agreement, both sides have mutually decided to extend the ceasefire “to bring about a lasting peace in the State of Nagaland with the involvement of Naga people.”
The extension comes with the continuation of the Ceasefire Ground Rules mutually agreed upon and signed by both parties.
The agreement also provides that the Ceasefire Ground Rules will remain subject to mutual review and amendment with the involvement of both parties.
The latest extension reaffirms the continuation of the ceasefire arrangement between the Centre and the NSCN(K)-Niki as both sides remain engaged in the process through peaceful dialogue.
The agreement was formally signed on September 7 in New Delhi, giving effect to the extension from September 8.
The NSCN(K)-Niki ceasefire arrangement with the Government of India has been part of the broader Naga peace process, with the ceasefire agreements providing a framework for maintaining peace while political dialogue continues.
The latest agreement, however, specifically provides for the one-year extension and adherence to the mutually agreed ground rules.
The agreement was signed by the representatives of both parties on September 7, 2026.
