Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Jitan Ram Manjhi on Tuesday reviewed the implementation of various centrally sponsored schemes and developmental programs in Longleng district during a meeting with district officials held at Rhododendron Hall, Police Complex, Chumoukedima.
The review meeting was chaired by W Manpai Phom, Deputy Commissioner and Vice-Chairman of DPDB Longleng.
Officials from various departments presented reports on ongoing projects, achievements, challenges and developmental requirements in the district before the Union Minister and the visiting central team.
According to officials, the review was being conducted under directives of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi to assess the ground realities and developmental needs of the district. The visiting team informed that observations and feedback gathered during the visit would be compiled and submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office and concerned Union Ministries for further action.
During the interaction, discussions were also held on whether Longleng could be considered under the Aspirational District Program, through which focused developmental support is extended to selected districts across the country.
Special emphasis was laid on the National Oil Palm Mission, with the visiting team seeking updates on plantation activities and benefits being extended to farmers and local communities.
Addressing the gathering, Manjhi stressed the importance of effective implementation of MSME-related initiatives and urged officials to work collectively for the welfare and economic development of the people.
MLA and Chairman DPDB Longleng A Pongshi Phom thanked the visiting delegation and said centrally sponsored schemes in sectors such as agriculture, health, education, rural development, solar energy and livelihood were contributing towards improving living standards in the district.
He also highlighted the role of the Department of Industries and Commerce in promoting self-employment opportunities among youth through schemes such as the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).
The MLA further appreciated the Chief Minister’s Micro Finance Initiative launched by the Government of Nagaland in 2022, stating that the programme had supported private enterprises and rural entrepreneurship.
Officials also discussed issues related to agriculture, livelihood and infrastructure development during the meeting, while stressing the need for coordination among departments for effective implementation of welfare schemes.
Later in the day, the Union Minister also held a separate review meeting with state officials of the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Coir Board and MSME-DFO under the Ministry of MSME at the Police Guest House.
