In joint representation to DC and Police Commissioner, Chakhesang bodies demand swift prosecution, recall ignored warning from February molestation case
Four major Chakhesang organisations have submitted a joint representation to the Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, demanding urgent action after a Chakhesang woman was allegedly molested and assaulted inside a moving auto-rickshaw on June 15 along Niuland Road under Showuba area.
The representation was signed by the Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH), Western Chakhesang Mothers’ Association (WCMA), Western Chakhesang Students’ Union (WCSU), and the Western Chakhesang Youth Organisation (WCYO).
“Once again, we are compelled to bring to your urgent attention the recent horrific molestation and assault of a Chakhesang woman on 15th June 2025 in a moving auto-rickshaw along Niuland Road under Showuba Area,” the groups wrote.
The accused have been identified as Adiraj Prasad alias Mughavi Zhimomi, a resident of Khekiho Village currently residing at Vihokhu Village, and Nur Islam, an auto-driver residing in Dimapur and originally from Bapura Ati, Nagaon District, Assam.
“The perpetrators… must be subjected to immediate and stringent legal action as per the relevant provisions of the law,” the representation stated.
This is not the first time the Chakhesang bodies have raised concerns over violence against women in Dimapur. The letter recalls an earlier case involving a Chakhesang female nursing student at District Hospital Dimapur. A joint representation regarding that case had been submitted on February 25, 2025.
“Had prompt stringent exemplary action been taken at that time, it could have served as a strong deterrent to this kind of recurrence of violence against our women without any regard for the law,” the letter pointed out.
In light of the June 15 incident, the representation makes three key demands:
Stringent prosecution of the accused under the fullest extent of the law.
Expeditious investigation into the matter.
Enhanced security measures, including intensified patrolling, to deter such heinous crimes in the future.
The WCH, which describes itself as “the apex tribal body representing the Chakhesang community in Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Niuland, and Peren”, said it is “profoundly disturbed by the escalating incidents of crimes against women.”
“The WCH anticipates your prompt and resolute intervention to ensure that justice is served and the safety of women is upheld as an inviolable priority,” the letter added.
“There must be no room for leniency” – CAKSU
The Chakhro Angami Kuda Students’ Union (CAKSU) also issued a strong condemnation stating, “Such an act is not only a grave violation of personal safety and dignity but also reflects the rising threats faced by women in our society.” The Union said it was relieved that the accused had been arrested and expressed full confidence in the authorities to take prompt and uncompromising legal action. “Crimes against women must be met with zero tolerance — there must be no room for leniency,” the statement read.
CAKSU also raised concern over what it described as the misuse of tribal identity by individuals falsely claiming Naga affiliations.
“Such misrepresentation by non-locals not only causes confusion but also tarnishes the image of our indigenous people,” the Union stated, urging authorities to take the matter seriously and implement strict measures to verify and prevent such false claims.
Declaring full solidarity with the victim and her family, CAKSU said it remains committed to upholding the rights and dignity of individuals and building a society based on justice, respect, and accountability.
Such crime breeds fear, insecurity and trauma – CMA
Terming the incident not only unacceptable, the Chakhesang Mothers’ Association (CMA) said it constitute “serious violation” against women’s rights and a direct assault on the safety and dignity of women.
“Such crime breeds fear, insecurity and trauma, leaving no space for women to live peacefully with dignity and without fear even in our own homeland,” the CMA said.
The CMA demanded that the Law Enforcement Agencies investigate the matter with all seriousness and urgency with zero tolerance on violence against women and ensure that such act of depravity will face full force of the law, without leniency or delay.
“The CMA will not remain silent in the face of injustice or violence against women in any form.
We are committed to fight and advocate for women’s rights, justice security and equality at all times,” it added.
I spotted a mention of a virtual pegboard in a friend’s Instagram story and clicked on plinko casino to explore. In South Africa, I value apps that don’t pull me through endless hoops just to start playing. Here, a quick sign-up got me into the action immediately. I placed a couple of low stakes, let the ball tumble, and enjoyed the simple pleasure of watching those pins do their work. When a win popped up, a satisfying chime played, and I felt that rush of small victory—enough to keep me coming back.
