The Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) has welcomed the State Government’s decision to constitute a Reservation Review Commission (RRC), calling it a “timely and decisive step” toward addressing disparities in Nagaland’s public employment.

In a press release, the CPO acknowledged the government’s commitment to creating a fair, transparent, and inclusive employment policy for all tribes in Nagaland. The organisation said it believes the Commission, once constituted, will help bring clarity and balance to the state’s reservation policy for the benefit of all communities.

Highlighting longstanding inequities, the CPO cited PIMS and Census of India data, previously published in local dailies on June 12, 2025, showing stark disparities between the Advanced Tribes and Backward Tribes in terms of access to education, resources, and employment opportunities.

Despite their rich cultural heritage and significant contributions, the CPO stated that the backward tribes continue to lag behind in job opportunities, representation and socioeconomic development.

The CPO urged the government to ensure that the interests of backward tribes are safeguarded while drafting the revised policy.

“It is essential that the interests of the backward tribes are safeguarded, and their fair share of employment opportunities are ensured, so as to promote social harmony and equitable development for all sections of society,” the CPO stated.

The CPO, while welcoming the decision of the government to constitute a Commission to review the State’s Job reservation policy, said it strongly urges the formation of a Statutory Commission comprising highly reputed experts, empowered to function independently and objectively. The CPO added that this Commission should undertake a comprehensive overhaul of the existing policy to reflect the current socio-economic realities of the state.

“The revised policy must effectively address prevailing disparities and ensure that underprivileged groups are brought on par with the advanced communities, thereby promoting social equity, harmony, and the constitutional vision of equality and peaceful coexistence,” the CPO stated.

The CPO concluded by reaffirming its commitment to work with the government and other stakeholders to ensure the RRC serves the best interests of Nagaland. “We stand ready to contribute positively to this process and hope that our collective efforts will bring about a fairer and more balanced employment policy for all the people of Nagaland,” it said.
