The Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) has strongly condemned what it described as an arbitrary raid conducted by the Assam Rifles on the evening of March 12, during which the General Secretary of the Phek Students’ Union (PSU) was allegedly blamed and treated as a suspect “of being associated with factions whatsoever.”

In a statement, the CSU termed the action “despicable” and said such conduct could not be tolerated in a community that values peaceful coexistence. The CSU stated that the incident had not only hurt the sentiments of the individual concerned but had also affected the dignity of the peace loving Chakhesang community.

Reiterating its opposition to the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), the union said the law, imposed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, grants unbridled power to the armed forces. The CSU also reaffirmed its stance of non-cooperation with security forces operating under the purview of AFSPA.

The student body further directed its affiliated and subordinate units to abstain from any form of association with Indian armed forces operating within the purview of AFSPA.

The CSU also called upon the government to respond to the demands of the people and repeal AFSPA without any delay, stating that such a move was necessary to restore peace and justice for the people of Nagaland who have suffered oppression for far too long.
