Chakhesang, Sumi, Pochury, and Sangtam tribal bodies have jointly appealed to the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima for the immediate repair of the damaged stretch of National Highway 29, specifically the stretch from Kohima to Chakhabama
In a joint representation, the Chakhesang Public Organisation, Sumi Hoho, Pochury Hoho and United Sangtam Likhum Pümji (USLP) expressed deep concern over the deteriorating condition of the road, calling it virtually impassable and hazardous for daily commuters.
The organisations stated that the highway serves as a crucial lifeline for the districts of Phek, Zunheboto, Meluri, Kiphire and surrounding areas.
“The situation has arisen due to the continued negligence of the construction companies responsible for its maintenance, even though the project is still within its maintenance period,” the organizations stated.
“The failure to repair and maintain this road not only poses a serious threat to the safety of commuters but also disrupts emergency services, affects local businesses, and severely hampers the economic well-being of the region,” they added.
The signatories urged the Deputy Commissioner to direct the concerned firms to begin immediate repair and restoration work on the said stretch of NH-29. “We trust that your prompt action will greatly relieve the hardships faced by the people and help restore safe and reliable road connectivity,” they said.
Copies of the appeal were also forwarded to the Angami Public Organisation, the Executive Director of NHIDCL and the construction firm RKIPL-NSC (JV) and EPC contractors.
