Kohima, 6 February (MTNews): The 29th Wrestling Meet of the Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) is all set to be held on 9 February 2024 at Chozuba Town, Phek.

The one-day championship will witness Under-16 and senior category of the Naga style wrestling championship. The championship is organized by the Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA), hosted by the Chozuba Range Wrestling Association (CRWA), and managed by the Chozuba Town Baptist Church (CTBC). This announcement was made by CWA President Akhozo here in Kohima today.

He informed that Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton will grace the championship as the special guest, and Kudecho Khamo, Advisor, CAWD & Taxes, as the guest of honour.

The championship torch will be lit by the first CWA Champion Pudusa Chizo, accompanied by three-time reigning champion Venuzo Dawhuo and U-16 reigning champion Thuputha Hesuh as torch bearers. This year, the cash prize money has been increased, said the president, and informed the champion will walk away with a cash prize of INR 250,000, along with the Lt. Chosanyi Rose Memorial Running Championship Belt, and INR 20,000 and a citation, while the second, third, and fourth position holders will be awarded INR 170,000, INR 130,000, and INR 100,000 respectively, along with citations. The quarterfinalists will receive a cash prize of INR 15,000 each.

For the Under-16 category, the champion will be awarded INR 50,000 with a citation, while the second, third, and fourth position holders will receive INR 30,000, INR 15,000, and INR 10,000 respectively, with citations. The quarterfinalists will also receive a cash prize of INR 5,000 each with citations.

The group champion will receive INR 20,000, while the best-disciplined team will be awarded INR 10,000.

General Secretary Kuzhovesa Soho has mandated that all vehicle owners attending the wrestling championship place their mobile number on the windshield of their car. Failure to comply will result in penalization by security and the management team.

The association has stated that Under-16 participants must be born on or after April 1, 2008, and only church-certified documents and immunization records will be accepted as age proof.

The Ticket prices are as follows: Donors – INR 2,000 (with complimentary food & cap), Chair Special – INR 1,000, Chair (General) – INR 300, and Gallery – INR 150.

The installation of the new CWA Executive Council for the tenure of 2024-2028 will be overseen by the Nomination Committee, and selected wrestlers will also be announced simultaneously.

Some of the renowned wrestlers taking part in the championship include Huluyi D. Vadeo, Secheku Area champ; Kuluvezo Soho, Phek Area champ; Venu Vadeo, Chozuba Area champ; Pfusato Tetseo, Besuhveto Cumu, Serayi Tetseo, Kuvenu Puro, Vemele Thingo, Basayi Keyho etc among others, who will be vying for the coveted title.
