The Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) has issued an alert after reports of gunshots were heard within the Surhoba Village range, apparently targeting the Hornbill. The organisation described such actions as a grave violation of standing resolutions and a setback to ongoing conservation efforts.
In a circular, the CYF emphasized that the Hornbill holds deep cultural significance for the Chakhesangs and the broader Naga community. The group urged all members and village units to remain vigilant and ensure no hunting of Hornbills or any wildlife occurs under any circumstances.
The circular further reminded communities that wildlife protection is a collective responsibility, and any breach of directives or CPO standing resolutions would invite serious consequences. The CYF requested that the notice be circulated widely among units and villages to ensure compliance.
“The protection of our wildlife is intertwined with our culture and heritage,” the CYF statement read, calling for support and cooperation from all community members.
