Chakhesangs and Lothas crowned champions at Tribal Tug of War and Cuisine contest

On the occasion of the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas Celebration and IEC Campaign for Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DA-JGUA), the Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Department of Tribal Affairs, Government of Nagaland, organized the State Level Tribal Tug of War and Tribal Cuisine Competition at NSF Solidarity Park, Kohima, on 22nd November 2024.

In the State Level Tug of War event, out of 16 competing tribes, the Chakhesangs emerged as the champions, while the Sumis and Angamis secured the 1st and 2nd runners-up, respectively.

In the Tribal Cuisine Competition, among the sixteen competitors representing their tribes, the Lothas claimed the championship, and the Pochury and Sumis secured the 1st and 2nd runners-up positions, respectively. The judges for the Tribal Cuisine competition were Asano Angamis, Sr Chef at Naithu Group; Chenti Phom, Proprietor of DUDA Guest House, Kohima; and Tokupu Kathu, Proprietor of Ancestral Cuisine, Kohima.

The winners were awarded certificates and cash prizes. The event was funded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India.

The event was witnessed by Secretary, Department of Tribal Affairs, Angelina Tajen; Director, Department of Tribal Affairs, Seno Phom; Commandant of the 13th AR, Col Tarun Rana; President of the Nagaland Tug of War Association (NTWA), Dr Er Vekho Swuro; department officials; and tribal hohos.
