The Chandel Naga Peoples’ Organisation (CNPO) has announced a total shutdown and a mass public rally on February 12 in protest against the border fencing and the scrapping of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) along the Indo-Myanmar border.

The shutdown will be observed from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM across all Naga areas under 41-Chandel and 42-Tengnoupal constituencies, with exemptions only for essential services such as medical emergencies, fire brigades, and electricity services.

In addition to the shutdown, a mass public rally is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM from Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School, Japhou. The rally will pass through Japhou Bazaar and culminate at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Chandel. CNPO has urged the participation of all Eleven Naga Tribe Hohos of Chandel, the Naga Students’ Union Chandel (NSUC) and its units, the Naga Chiefs’ Association Chandel (NCAC), the Maring Uparap Assembly (MACA), Japhou Bazaar Board, area-wise chief associations, village authorities, church leaders, social leaders, and the general public.

The shutdown will impact several areas, including Chandel district headquarters, Chakpikarong, Kapaam, Tuishímí, Machi, Aimol Pallel, Khangshim, Thamlapokpi, Lamkang Khunou, and Tengnoupal.

CNPO has appealed for public cooperation and expressed gratitude for the continued support towards their cause.
