National Wildlife Week 2024 was organized by the Mokokchung Forest Division and the Wildlife Division of Dimapur under the theme “Wildlife Conservation through Coexistence.” The event aimed to educate villagers about the importance of wildlife protection and conservation, focusing on reducing conflicts between humans and wild animals while fostering a sense of responsibility toward the environment. It emphasized the critical role wildlife plays in maintaining ecological balance and the consequences of its loss.


The program took place at Changdang Village on October 7, 2024, and was attended by representatives from the Village Councils of Lakhoni, Alongtaki, Changdang, and Lizo Model Village.

N. Orenthung Kikon, NCS, EAC Longchem, graced the occasion and delivered a speech on wildlife awareness. He emphasized the importance of conservation and achieving coexistence between people and wildlife, acknowledging the critical challenges in conserving the Earth’s biodiversity and the ecosystems on which we depend.

Wildlife Warden Dimapur, Tokaho Kinimi, IFS, encouraged villagers to conserve animal corridors for safe movement and reassured them that the department is ready to work with communities toward wildlife conservation.

He stressed the need for peaceful coexistence between humans and wildlife to maintain the delicate balance of nature. Regarding wildlife-human conflicts, he urged the community to seek assistance from the department when needed.

The program was chaired by Imkongmar, Deputy Ranger, and began with an invocation by T. Leim, Pastor of Changdang Baptist Church. I. Bendang, Chairman of Changdang Village, delivered the welcome address and expressed gratitude to all attendees for their participation.
