Cole Palmer scored twice and assisted another as Chelsea stunned Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final of the inaugural 32-team FIFA Club World Cup on Sunday at the MetLife Stadium. Facing the newly crowned Champions League winners, Chelsea were clinical and dominant from the outset, sealing victory by half-time.

Palmer opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, finishing a Malo Gusto setup. He doubled the lead shortly after, beating Gianluigi Donnarumma with a low strike. On 43 minutes, Palmer turned provider, assisting new signing Joao Pedro, who coolly added a third.
It was a nightmare afternoon for PSG, who had thrashed Real Madrid 4-0 in the semi-finals. Their frustration peaked when Joao Neves was sent off late for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair, following a VAR review.
The match, witnessed by 81,000 fans including Donald and Melania Trump, capped a dream season for Chelsea. After winning the UEFA Conference League and finishing fourth in the Premier League, they now add a historic Club World Cup title and $125 million in prize money.
For PSG, the loss mars an otherwise successful season, with the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham up next.

Club World Cup could eclipse UCL, says Chelsea boss Maresca
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca said that the Club World Cup could eclipse UCL in the future. “I feel that this competition [the Club World Cup] will be as important as or even more important than the Champions League.”
Reflecting on his previous Champions League experience at Manchester City, he added: “This competition features the best clubs in the world. That’s why we value it as much as the Champions League, or perhaps even more.”
