Phek, December 13 (MTNews): The 57th Games & Sports Meet of Chesezu Youth Association got underway at local ground Chesezu under Phek district on Tuesday. The inaugural session of the five-day long event was graced by Nagaland Wushu Association president and Chairman of Entrepreneurs Development Agency, Küdecho Khamo as the chief guest.

The closing session will be graced by Vekhosayi Nyekha, president of Western Tenyimi Hoho on December 17. Day-1 of the meet featured athletic activities such as 100M dash, 200M dash, 400M dash.

 

In his address, the inaugural chief guest impressed upon the sportspersons to give their best effort in one sporting discipline to be successful. “You will be playing in the village but one day you can represent the state and country at different events,” he encouraged the athletes. Maintaining that sports have been gaining popularity in the modern society, he asked the sportspersons for professionalism in their career and not to be “seasonal sportspersons.”

 

 

He also asked the youths to not only give their best effort in sports but also respect the elders, help the poor and weaker sections of the society for the uplift of the village.

 

Adding that under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who is also the NOA president, the government is serious about promoting sports and sportspersons in the state. CM has given the best effort with better facilities and infrastructure, he said.  He also cited the cash incentives given by the Chief Minister to the medal winning sportspersons of the recently held Northeast Olympic games.

 

 

As the Nagaland Wushu Association, the discipline that won 6 medals in northeast Olympics, Khamo also made special mention of individual sports disciplines like wrestling, Wushu, boxing, taekwondo, karate and judo etc. where Nagas can shine.

 

He also reiterated his aspiration to serve and work for the welfare of the people in the constituency. In this regard, he sought people’s blessing, support and prayers to serve the people. Further, he expressed his hope on the leadership of CM Neiphiu Rio to continue his tenure in the upcoming general election. Khamo assured to work under Rio’s leadership to work for the welfare of the constituency if given a chance.
