Tuensang, 13 January (MTNews): Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio graced the Poanglüm Mini Hornbill Festival Lüm Lin (Joyous Parting) at Parade Ground Tuensang on Saturday.
During the occasion, Rio expressed his happiness at being part of the celebration. He stated that, with the advent of Christianity and education, the Nagas have progressed significantly. Rio mentioned specific provisions within the Indian Constitution for the protection of land, resources, and customary rights for the Nagas.
Referring to Nagaland as the “Land of Festivals,” the Chief Minister called on the gathering to showcase rich culture, traditions, and promote local products. “Our festivals have significant cultural & social values, preserving history for future generations. They give us identity & feeling of oneness through shared traditions,” Rio said.
He added that the last edition of the Hornbill Festival attracted more tourists than any previous year.
The Chief Minister urged the gathering to be champions of peace and unity, emphasizing that having an opposition-less government is a sign of such harmony. He also mentioned that once the Naga political issue is settled, many developments will follow, attracting foreign investors willing to invest in developmental activities in Nagaland.
During the function, the Chief Minister awarded the Qui-Qui (Highly Exalted) award to Mongku Yanchu Chang IPS, Phinjam Newsletter, and Chingmei Village for their contributions to Millet Production.
Other highlights of the program included Shensinge Chia by Eli Imti, a short speech from KU President Tingthok Konyak, and Tradigraphy from Yongkuk Baptist Church.
The host of the program was Minister for Housing & Mechanical Engineering, P Beshangmongba Chang. The event was attended by Minister RD and SIRD, Metsubo Jamir; Advisor Fire & Emergency Services, Home Guards & Civil Defence, S Kiusumew Yimchinger, and a host of dignitaries.
