Kohima, 27 February (MTNews): To address the financial vulnerabilities faced by families in the wake of the untimely demise of their breadwinners, Chief Minister Rio has introduced the Chief Minister’s Universal Life Insurance Scheme today. This scheme is designed to provide crucial financial protection to families in Nagaland during times of crisis.

Under the scheme, families will receive life insurance coverage of Rs 2 lakh in the event of the breadwinner’s demise due to any cause. Additionally, each breadwinner and three family members will also be covered by accidental insurance, providing Rs. 2 lakh coverage each. The accidental insurance component encompasses both disability and death, ensuring comprehensive protection for beneficiaries.

In the unfortunate event of accidental death, beneficiaries will receive a sum insured of Rs 2 lakh per individual. For cases involving total and irrecoverable loss of both eyes or loss of use of both hands or feet, the coverage stands at Rs 2 lakh. Similarly, for total and irrecoverable loss of sight of one eye or loss of use of one hand or foot, beneficiaries will receive Rs. 1 lakh in coverage.

This scheme, he said, will extend coverage to every household in Nagaland. To facilitate the implementation of the Chief Minister’s Universal Life Insurance Scheme, a provision of Rs 15 crore has been allocated to cover the cost of premiums.
