The Chiru Students’ Union Northeast India (CSU, NEI) has strongly opposed the proposed construction of what it calls the counterfeit “German Road” or “Tiger Road,” allegedly planned from Kangpokpi to Churachandpur through what it asserts are ancestral Naga territories.

In a strongly worded statement issued by its Information and Publicity Cell, the Union said, “Let it be emphatically understood that since time immemorial there is no historical, traditional, or legal foundation for any road named German Road or Tiger Road ever existing within these ancestral lands.”

Describing the road nomenclature as “mendaciously fabricated with the purpose of implementing unlawful claims and forcing unacceptable projects into our ancestral Naga territories,” the CSU has called upon the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to take urgent note of the issue and resolve it promptly.

“We request the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to look into this matter with serious attention and resolve it at the earliest possible time,” the CSU appealed. It further warned that backing or permitting what it termed a “wish list” would amount to “a reckless endorsement of territorial impingement and would seriously imperil tenuous inter-community relations in the region.”

The CSU urged the Government of India to ensure that “no infrastructure project under any name or pretext violates the territorial sanctity of Naga territories.”

Apart from the road issue, the Union also raised concerns over the presence of armed groups in the region. It stated, “We also request the prompt disassembly of all camps of Kuki militant groups near Naga inhabited areas. These illegal camps pose a perpetual threat to peace and security.”

Reaffirming the resolve of the Nagas to defend their land, the statement concluded with a warning: “Nagas are not invaders, but we will defend our land, history and rights by all means.”
