Mokokchung, October 15 (MTNews): Alempang Baptist Church Youth Ministry held a symposium for the ‘Adult Youth’ on Friday, 14 October 2022 at Gilgal Hall, ABA. The event targeted youths from the age of 24 years and above and around 22 participants attended the symposium. The keynote speakers at the symposium were Merensashi R. Jamir and Matsung Longkumer, Associate Pastor, Sungkomen Baptist Arogo.

Topics discussed at the symposium included ‘Reimagining Salvation by contesting the Christian aspects of salvation through the lens of humanization’ and ‘Permissible vis-à-vis Beneficial: A reflection on Paul’s Ethical Teaching’.

The former pondered upon the question – whether salvation is an affair only between the self and the after-life? Does salvation entail domination of others and sidelining the communitarian aspect? Is it time that we think of providing a new layer to the Christian understanding of salvation and try to recognize the presence of others amidst us?

It made an attempt to stir up these understandings and try to reimagine salvation by incorporating the tools involved in the concept of humanization and take steps farther where the physical aspects of salvation is given due recognition alongside its spiritual understanding.

The latter focused on three segments: firstly, ethics and the Aos – The right or wrong: Communitarian good, secondly, Modern ethical view and thirdly, Paul: permissible vis-à- vis Beneficial. An overview was emphasized on the topic with a thought that most Christian youths are confronted with the question of legality or the permissibility of the situation encountered by them. The speaker made a concluding remark: ‘Christian spirituality is constant. Culture and social development will change but spirituality should not change’.

In the event, welcome remarks were delivered by Meren Jamir Youth Promoter ABA and facilitated the discussion.
