Chuchuyimlang, 9 October (MTNews): Chuchuyimlang Village came together on Monday to celebrate the 91st Birthday of one of its most cherished adopted sons, the late Padmashree Natwar Thakkar.
In 2019, Chuchuyimlang village declared this day as the “Noble Deeds Day” in honor of Natwar Thakkar’s remarkable 63 years of selfless service. Thakkar arrived in Nagaland as a young man in early 1955, and his legacy of compassion and dedication inspired the community to establish this annual tradition. Every year, the day is marked with every citizen of the village undertaking some kind of charitable, voluntary, or affirmative action to benefit fellow community members or the broader society.
“This is the community’s way of repaying Thakkar’s selfless work of a lifetime aimed at uplifting the socio-economic condition of the less privileged section of the society,” a press release said.
Apart from the various noble deeds performed by individuals and organizations, a public function was organized by Chuchuyimlang Kaketshir Telongjem (Chuchuyimlang Students Union) at Anü Mai Amphitheater with the participation of the entire village community and invitees from neighboring villages. The event was also attended by people from different parts of the country joining in virtually.
The function was marked by speeches delivered on the life and works of Padmashree Natwar Thakkar by prominent personalities including Guru Chubatozung, senior member Chuchuyimlang Village Council; Marsanen, President of Langpangkong Tzukong Mungdang; Rev T Lima, Pastor, Chuchuyimlang Baptist Church; Dr Aotoshi, Managing Trustee of the Nagaland Gandhi Ashram; and R Lanuyanger, Advisor, Chuchuyimlang Students Union.
