The Chuchuyimpang Village Council has initiated a community extension work to repair the road leading to Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, the oldest college in Nagaland. The work began on September 29 and, after a five-day effort, is scheduled to resume on Monday, October 6. The stretch from NH-02 to the college measures just under one kilometer.

According to Chuchuyimpang Village Council Chairman I Zulu Imsong, the project was undertaken after observing the difficulties faced by students and staff due to the poor condition of the road. “Moreover, the road falls under our village territory,” he told Mokokchung Times. “The college authorities are also putting in a lot of effort to improve the college. We really appreciate the work of the college authorities, led by the principal, and decided to contribute as well,” he said.

The road was last paved in 2017, but the chairman noted that the workmanship was unsatisfactory, causing the surface to deteriorate almost immediately. The road falls under the purview of the NPWD, and there is currently no information regarding any government plans to pave it.

This is not the first time the village council has contributed to the road’s upkeep. Fifteen years ago, the council widened the road independently, but the government paved only the original width, leaving the widened sections unpaved.

During the ongoing repair work, the council cleared drainage, leveled the road surface by filling potholes with boulders , earth and stone dust, and removed debris from the roadsides. Machinery including a JCB backhoe, a dumper truck, and a road roller were hired. Beginning Monday, 20 mm stone chips will be added to reinforce the road.
