Chümoukedima and Kohima emerged as the champions of the Boys U-15 and Girls U-17 categories, respectively, in the first State Level Pre-Subroto cum Junior Football Tournament held at IG Stadium Kohima. SFS Hr Sec. School, Chümoukedima, will now represent Nagaland for Boys U-15, and Government High School Meriema will represent the state for U-17 girls at the international Subroto Mukherjee Cup.
The tournament was organized by the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland, and the Nagaland Football Association (NFA).
On Tuesday, in the final of the U-15 boys’ match, Chümoukedima defeated Peren 1-0 to take the title and represent the state in the international tournament. Meanwhile, Wokha beat Kiphire 2-1 to claim the third position in the boys’ category.
In the girls’ category, Kohima outclassed Noklak 3-0 in the final match to take the title, and Chümoukedima took third place by defeating Zunheboto 3-0 in the girls’ category.
The Pre-Subroto cum Junior Football Tournament was held as part of the department’s yearly activity to expose the talents of the younger generation and prepare for future tournaments.
The department added that the tournament was organized to identify talents and to select the team that will represent the state at the Subroto Mukherjee Cup, likely to be held later in the month of July this year.
