In view of the “potential influx of illegal immigrants into the State from neighbouring Assam,” the Chumoukedima District Village Councils’ Association has issued a strong advisory to all member villages, particularly those located along the inter-state boundary, to heighten vigilance.

The Association has specifically called on villages “in close proximity with Assam such as Urra, Murise, Tsithrongse, Kiyeto, Dhansiripar etc.” to deploy volunteers and maintain “round-the-clock” vigilance. These villages lie along the Dhansiri River, which serves as the natural boundary between Nagaland and Assam and is considered a likely route for illegal entry.

The Association has further appealed to “all the village Councils in Chumoukedima District to ensure that there are no new unregistered immigrants in their respective jurisdictions.” It stated that “if such persons are detected, the Councils should immediately bring it to the notice of the District administration for further action.”

In addition to local efforts, the Association urged the State Government to strengthen its border monitoring. It called for “adequate police personnel to conduct patrolling activities along Dhansiri river banks which could be used as entry points by illegal immigrants.” The Association also asked the Government to “ensure proper mechanism is in place at Shokhuvi Railway Station to ensure strict monitor of ILPS so that any means to enter the state illegal can be diligently handled.”

Reaffirming the importance of regulatory enforcement, the Association directed “all Village Councils in the District to coordinate with the District Administration and hasten the ILP drive and to strictly implement the ILP regime.”
