Chümoukedima, 1 March (MTNews): The Chümoukedima Village Youth Society (CVYS) has reiterated its standing resolution on prohibiting hunting, fishing, foraging, and other activities that deplete the flora and fauna under Chümoukedima Village jurisdiction. Any individuals found violating these regulations will face severe consequences, including fines of no less than INR 1 lakh depending upon the severity of the act.

It said that carrying of firearms inside the village jurisdiction will be strictly prohibited while all types of firearms intended to use for hunting in the village jurisdiction will be confiscated and processed for license cancellation.

“Unlicensed Firearms/ Air rifles or any other hunting tools will be confiscated and destroyed on the spot,” it added.

Moreover, the CVYS has issued a stern warning against starting wildfires, citing the irreversible damage they cause. Those responsible for such acts will be subject to fines of INR 5 lakhs or more, along with legal repercussions as per the law, it said.

As the Old Chümoukedima Heritage Village gains popularity among trekkers and picnickers, the CVYS has urged visitors to maintain and care for the heritage site and public amenities. It added that vandalism or defacement of monuments and public rest houses will not be tolerated, with strict measures promised against perpetrators.

Additionally, the CVYS has called for visitors to dispose of their waste/trash responsibly in pits/waste bins, especially plastic waste.

Further, the CVYS appealed to denizens to adhere to cautionary sign boards put up within its jurisdiction, including speed limits and prohibition of underage driving inside the village jurisdiction.
In response to rising criminal activities of robbery, drug peddlers and public nuisance, the CVYS has now restricted loitering in the village after 8 pm without a valid reason, with youth volunteers empowered to enforce these measures.

“Youth volunteers on duty have been instructed to halt and enquire, and therefore, commuters/visitors are advised to cooperate with the youth volunteers,” it added.
