A meeting on the “Setting up of 50-Bedded Integrated Ayush Hospital at Sabangya, Mokokchung” was held today, October 13, at the Office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Mokokchung, following a five-day deadline issued by the Chungtia Students’ Union (CSU) to the department and the contractor over concerns regarding the “poor and doubtful” quality inspection report of the hospital at Chungtia village.

The three-hour meeting was convened by the Department of Health and Family Welfare to address the CSU’s concerns regarding construction quality. According to Zaongtoshi, convenor of the CSU, both the department and the contractor “accepted the substandard workmanship.”

“All the stakeholders have decided that there will be retesting for all the structures. We have also rejected the test results from North East Engineers. It was further decided that rectifications will be carried out through retrofitting techniques by external technical experts, based on the retest results. The rectification details will be approved by the joint stakeholder supervision team,” Zaongtoshi told MT after the meeting.

It was also informed that all retesting and retrofitting of the hospital structures will be conducted under the supervision of the Chungtia Village Council and the Chungtia Students’ Union, along with all stakeholders.

When asked if the outcome was satisfactory, Zaongtoshi said, “At the moment, it is all in good faith. We hope that they will follow through on what they have said. There is a provision that if they fail to abide by today’s agreement, we will proceed with legal action.”
