A building belonging to the Chungtia Unit Ex-Servicemen, which was on rental as a restaurant at Longjongkong (New Camp), was gutted in a fire early Tuesday morning, May 26, at around 1 am.

Speaking to MT, Imtiyabang, a member of the Ex-Servicemen unit, said that as per the restaurant owner’s account, the establishment had served customers till around 11 pm before closing for the night.

The fire reportedly broke out around 1 am, with suspicion that it may have originated from the kitchen area, as there was no electricity at the time.

The two-room structure, which was partly concrete and partly bamboo, was completely damaged in the fire. However, no injuries were reported.

According to the owner, cash amounting to around Rs 50,000 and goods worth approximately Rs 4 lakh were destroyed in the incident.

Local residents, led by the Longjongkong Village Council Chairman, managed to douse the fire before it could spread further. The fire brigade was not called as the location is far from the nearest station, and villagers reportedly used available water resources to control the blaze.
