The 41st Annual Sports Meet 2024 of the Chüziema Youth Organization (CYO) commenced on December 26, with Mhasimhalie Matthew Yhome, President of the Kohima District Football Association, as the chief guest.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Yhome shared his experience in his football career, having completed 25 years of playing at various levels and earning his AFC C License as a coach.

To be a good sportsperson, he said, one requires discipline, dedication, determination, sincerity, and, above all, God’s blessings.

He urged the youth to avoid alcohol, tobacco, and drugs. To be a good player, he emphasized the importance of respecting parents, elders, leaders, and coaches.

Yhome thanked the state government for promoting sports and commended Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Advisor to the CM Abu Metha for advancing sports across the state.

Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by CYO President Avituo Zatsu, while CYO Sports Secretary Neisakholie Pienyii administered the oath to the participating teams. The program was led by CYO Vice President Vivolie Pienyii.

Meanwhile, Kesoneilie Theiinuo, former Chairman of the Thizama Village Council, will grace the valedictory function on December 30.
