The Clean Doyang Mission was successfully completed on June 12, 2024. The mission, which commenced on June 7, 2024, was initiated with the objective of addressing the problem of plastic waste accumulated at the Doyang reservoir.

Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, IAS, commented on the successful completion of the mission, stating that the Clean Doyang Mission was initiated in a mission mode. An area task force, headed by EAC Sungro, was constituted to assess the requirement for manpower, machinery, and other logistical arrangements, and officially started work on June 8, 2024.

The Deputy Commissioner expressed his appreciation to Advisor for Agriculture & Chairman DPDB Wokha, Mhathung Yanthan, for personally visiting the area and encouraging the team towards the successful completion of the Clean Doyang Mission.

He also extended his gratitude to all the teams and volunteers involved in the mission, including those from Pangti village, Dhillong village, and neighboring villages around the Doyang, as well as the Englan Range Student’s Union (ERSU) and Lotha Student’s Union. Additionally, he thanked Team Better Dimapur Eco Warriors Nagaland. The Deputy Commissioner also expressed his thanks to personnel from the 7th NAP, DEF, and SDRF, who played a vital role in the successful completion of the mission.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that waste segregation was carried out at the site before being transported to various processing centers. He further stated that to prevent such occurrences in the future, the District Administration will remain in contact with the State Government to seek advice on how to counter this issue.

Ranjan urged the public and neighboring villages of the Doyang area to develop resolutions for managing waste in order to keep the catchment area plastic-free and to maintain a clean and beautiful Doyang. (DIPR)
