Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, shed light on the delayed construction of the multi-discipline sports complex in Dimapur during the inauguration of Sammogooting Stadium at the DC Office Complex in Chumoukedima on January 24, 2025. The project, which has been under construction for several years, is set to be the largest sports complex in Nagaland once completed, but Rio acknowledged the setbacks that have caused its prolonged timeline.
Rio explained that the project was initially financed and sponsored by the Planning Commission of India. However, following the dissolution of the Planning Commission and the formation of NITI Aayog, the expected funding was not received, leading to significant delays in the construction process.
Despite these challenges, the Chief Minister assured the public that an alternative source of funding has been identified to ensure the completion of the complex.
If completed, Rio said that it’ll be the biggest sports complex, with various facilities such as AstroTurf, athletic tracks, swimming pool, wrestling arena, and all other facilities and will facilitate not only Dimapur, but whole Nagaland. He mentioned that all these developments are for our youth, where Government functions, private functions or district tournaments, all can be conducted in one place with ease.
Rio also appealed for the support and cooperation of citizens from all villages, officials, the district administration, and contractors who have committed to completing the project ahead of schedule.
