Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Minister in charge of National Highways, T.R. Zeliang, on Saturday inspected the ongoing road repair works along the National Highway at the Kezanu and Liezocha stretches under Jotsoma village in Kohima district.
During the inspection, Executive Engineer of PWD (National Highways), Bendang, briefed the visiting officials on the progress of the work. He informed that the stream responsible for the recent landslide, along with two adjoining streams, had been diverted to another valley. The streams are being channelled into a single reinforced concrete (RCC) box drainage system designed to ensure smoother water flow and enhance slope stability.
The major components of the project, including construction of a gabion wall, earth cutting, and surface stabilization, are progressing steadily, and the road is expected to become motorable soon.
The Chief Minister expressed concern over the need for slope protection measures to prevent future landslides and stressed the importance of building proper drainage systems. He urged engineers and contractors to maintain quality workmanship and to expedite the completion of the project to restore safe passage for commuters.
Deputy Commissioner Kohima B Henok Buchem, Revenue Officer Kevingoto Kulnu, and other departmental officials also accompanied the inspection team.
