CM Rio graces second day of Khaozaosie Hok-Ah cum Mini Hornbill Festival at Nokhu

The second day of the Khaozaosie Hok-Ah cum Mini Hornbill Festival 2026 was held on January 20 at Nokhu, Noklak district, with Chief Minister of Nagaland, Dr. Neiphiu Rio, as the Chief Guest.

In his speech, Dr. Rio highlighted the State Government’s efforts to promote tribal festivals to preserve the rich culture and traditions of the Nagas, noting that festivals foster friendship and unity among communities. He acknowledged the wisdom of the forefathers in safeguarding Naga culture and passing it down through generations.

Dr. Rio mentioned that the British also recognized Naga culture through the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act, 1873, which helped preserve traditions via the Inner Line Permit system. On the ENPO demand, he said the State Government has submitted recommendations to the Central Government for the creation of the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) in Eastern Nagaland.

The Chief Minister emphasized the role of the Pan Naga Hoho in uniting Nagas across regions and states, safeguarding their identity and welfare. He also urged elected representatives, civil society organizations, and church leaders to work together for peace, unity, and societal progress.

During the festival, Dr. Rio inaugurated the handicrafts stall set up by the Noklak District Handloom & Handicrafts Council, various department stalls, and Self-Help Groups. He also shot the first bow and arrow set up by the Khiamniungan Sports Council.

Tribal guest and President of the Angami Public Organization, Thejao Vihienuo, spoke on the enduring friendship between the Angami and Khiamniungan tribes, calling for trust, peace, and unity among all Naga tribes. He expressed hope that the festival strengthens bonds not only between these two tribes but across Nagaland.

Festival greetings were delivered by MLA Benei M Lamthiu. Traditional precautions and the friendship treaty were presented by Head DB of Nokhu, Palu, while the welcome address was delivered by President of the Khiamniungan Tribal Council, L. Ngon. Performances included folk fusion by Thsoithen Langtha and Hoi i-e tsu by Choklangan village. Dr. Rio was accompanied by Ministers Metsübo Jamir and C. L. John, MLA Achumbemo Kikon, MLA P. Longon, and other dignitaries.
