Mhaseve Tetseo shuts down years of defamatory abuse against Tetseo Sisters, warns of legal action against rumormongers

Nagaland’s celebrated musical group, the Tetseo Sisters, have finally addressed the malicious rumors and defamatory comments that have circulated on social media for years. In a detailed statement, published in an Instagram reel, Mhaseve Tetseo, a member of the group, strongly condemned the false allegations targeting his sisters and their family, calling them baseless, malicious, and a direct attack on their reputation and integrity.
Mhaseve categorically denied rumors linking the family to Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, stating, “Our honorable CM Rio is definitely NOT my uncle and absolutely NOT the father of my nephews or nieces… None of my sisters or family have any ties or connections whatsoever with him or his respectable family.”
He also addressed persistent defamatory claims labeling his sisters as escorts or concubines, calling these accusations “utterly false, lies, and rubbish.” He expressed disbelief that such narratives could be fabricated and perpetuated within the Naga community. “Whoever cooked up all these rumors and lies deserves a special place in hell,” he wrote.
The Tetseo family has announced that they are documenting defamatory statements made against them, whether written, verbal, or on social media. They have invited their supporters to assist by providing screenshots, videos, or links to defamatory content. Mhaseve warned that individuals who fail to retract false statements by the end of 2024 could face legal action under Section 499 of the Indian Penal Code, (Now BNS, Section 356) which deals with defamation. He also cautioned that even those who ‘like’ or react to such posts on social media would be held accountable.
Reaffirming the family’s values, Mhaseve emphasized that they are a Christian family striving to uphold high moral standards. He noted that their silence in the past was not an admission of guilt but a belief that the truth would prevail. However, he asserted that the family had reached their limit: “Our silence is not because we are wrong! It is because we always believe the truth will triumph in the end, but people have crossed every line now.”
