Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio called on architects to play a pivotal role in shaping a resilient and sustainable Nagaland during the 25th Anniversary celebration of the Association of Nagaland Architects (ANA) on 25th October at JP Park & Banquets, Chumoukedima.

Highlighting the significance of ANA’s journey, Rio noted that the association’s 25-year milestone reflects vision, perseverance, and the collective commitment of architects to the state’s built environment.
He acknowledged the pioneering work of Ar. Chitra Vishwanath of Biome Environmental Solutions, Bangalore, whose approach of building in harmony with nature has inspired architects across the region. He also commended ANA’s early advocacy for development controls and building bye-laws in Nagaland, a foundational step toward organized, safe, and sustainable urban growth.
Rio emphasized the broader role of architects beyond design. He stated that they are custodians of heritage, interpreters of culture, and visionaries for the future.
He stressed the importance of integrating Naga traditional ethos with modern functionality to create structures that are both culturally relevant and practical.
Addressing the challenges posed by Nagaland’s location in Earthquake Zone 5, Rio urged architects to prioritize safety, innovate continually, and adopt resilient construction practices. He also encouraged ANA members to lead in empowering local communities by training masons, engineers, and artisans, thereby generating employment and fostering economic growth.
